Wang Luobin -- King of Folk Singer in China's Western Regions - Chinese Music
 
   

Wang Luobin
Wang Luobin (1913-1996), born in Beijing, was a composer, folk musician and member of Chinese Musicians' Association.

1931: He was admitted by the Department of Music of Beijing Normal University;

1934: He dropped out of university and worked as a middle school teacher;

1937: He served in the northwestern battlefield of the Eighth Route Army;

1938: He joined in an anti-war opera group in Lanzhou in Northwest China;

1941: He was in jail;

1944: He was out of jail and worked as a middle school teacher in Qinghai Province in Southwest China;

1949: He went to Xinjiang and worked there;

1960: He was put in prison and stay there for 15 years;

1979: He worked in Battle Song and Dance Troupe in Lanzhou;

Wang Luobin, since 1937, was engaged in collecting folk songs of ethnic groups in Northwest regions. He was thus honored as "The King of Folk Singer in Western Regions".
